AO-39 conversion to power amp with volume/ master volume

Anyone have some thoughts on conversions of AO-39's to power amps with some kind of pre and post volume controls with out changing the tube types of the original circuit? I would like to do the same with my AO-35's also. Not sure which type of the two AO's mentioned would be better suited for this conversion. :?:
