Tip of the day
Can we make this a sticky?
My tip for the day:
When checking the heater wiring for shorts (transformer coil disconnected), remember to remove the lamp, if there is one.
I was measuring 5 ohms between heater legs...turns out it was the 6.3v incandescent lamp.

Second! Tip of the day:
Dry or wet erase whiteboard markers are great for scribbling, in a non-permanent way, on your chassis, knobs, tubes, etc.

Tip of the day:
Permanent markers, even if they are conveniently located in the whiteboard tray, are not the best choice for writing on a whiteboard when lecturing to the class. Don't ask me how I know this.

Permanent marker (especially Sharpie) is easily removed by writing over it with dry erase marker and simply wiping it off!

Rubbing alcohol on a soft rag will remove fresh Sharpie and most stale Sharpie from hard surfaces.

Flux remover will remove both fresh and stale sharpie markings.Phil_S wrote:Rubbing alcohol on a soft rag will remove fresh Sharpie and most stale Sharpie from hard surfaces.

Re: Tip of the day
tips dont gotta be about sharpies!!
i took an old pair of meter leads (crusty, corroded, low quality) clipped off the probes and soldered on alligator clips, mostly for clipping to chassis or other grounds. i dunno, not a new or revolutionary idea, but it works for me

When working on a little SE amp like a Champ do not mix up the output tube and the recto as they basically look the same and will plug in and not blow fuse's, but the amp will not work either!
We need to shorten do not ask me how I know this to ,DNAMHIKT!

I got a good one!
When reaching for the nut in the corner of the chassis to take it out of the cabinet, beside the fuse, make sure the amp is UNPLUGGED.
....don't ask me how I know that.

When working on your d-lator, make sure you are aware there are no bleeder resistors in the power supply.
