Need some transformer help
Picked up this stancor for $4.00 figuring what the hell $4.00 is worth the risk. Tested it today and with 125v primaries its running around 386ish volts on the secondary. No ground or 6.3v supplies. I was hoping to build a matchless hotbox with it but im not sure what all i could use this for. Give me some ideas please

That transformer is a 400 volt RMS photo flash pump!
With no center tap you would have to use a SS bridge recto set up, but from the photo with no scale to judge its size from its hard to say how much current it can output, how big is it compared to a quarter?
It seems to made to pump up a large filter, and they seem to go for some 25 bucks on eaby, so for 4 bucks ya did ok!

Secondary is 380V @20mA so not many options other than maybe a tube preamp or buffered fx loop.stretch2011 wrote:Picked up this stancor for $4.00 figuring what the hell $4.00 is worth the risk. Search around for a used 12 volt switching power supply as used in a lot of video gear to power filaments with in some 12A type tubes and build a preamp section to mess with!

He he pre amps are about be made! I'm relatively sure the place I got it from have more. They also have some 6.3v filament transformers for around 3.50-$4.00. I love stumbling onto small treasure troves!!! Thanks everybody!

Try to avoid any SMPS feeding your filaments or near your Hotbox guts, they are usually "dirty" in a switching, digital way.
Try to use a plain old 60Hz conventional filament transformer.
