Hammond 270EX PT 6.3v wiring center tap?

Post by 10thTx »

I have a Hammond 270EX PT in front of me. I do not see a center tap wiring for the 6.3v wiring, so I am thinking that this Hammond trannie has an internal center tap and that I do not need to create an artificial center tap with 100ohm resistors?

Anyone know if this is correct and there is essentially no center tap wiring needed for the Hammond 270EX? I've looked at the Hammond spec sheets and done a google search. However, I couldn't tell for sure.

Thanks! With respect, 10thtx

10th, I just looked at a 270HX that I've had for awhile, which should be the same series. It does have the 6.3v ct. Interesting.

Yes, the Hammond specs don't mention a center tap for the 6.3v heater wires. I did not know if that meant it wasn't needed, that there is an internal center tap inside the PT itself, or if there is an expectation of creating an artificial center tap?

I'd assume no center tap. Measure from the filament leads to every ground coming out of the transformer, and the case. That should be definitive.

It looks like 100 ohm 1/2 watt resistors to ground time!

I did install 100ohm resistors to ground to make an artificial center tap and it works great.
