I don't know that this kind of post has any relation to building amps and IS definitely political in nature due to what's going on right now. I'd highly recommend you please remove it.

Back to the original discussion: yes, the scheme of using variable resistors for most Rs would make sense when prototyping (or just use a breadboard).
