Ceramic Cap Source

Post by Deric »

I swear I've seen a recent thread about this same topic but can't find it...

My supply of 1KV ceramic disk caps is fading. Would like to stock up. What are you guys using and where are you getting them?

Looking for caps in the 47pf to 680pf range.

Thanks! 8)

I got these for my latest dumble build:

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/59 ... 5X5FN63L6R

very nice quality seemingly to me, Vishay/BC Components 1kVDC ceramic X5F caps.

I've been told in many place that the right quality ones for signal path are the x5fs

Here's one source I use (other than Mouser):

WFC has a wide range of Ceramic Discs from different manufacturers.

Make sure that the voltage rating and grade are what you require for your project.

I've ordered from them many times over several years----- never a problem with a wrong shipment and fast shipping.

WFC also has film caps and other components.

I'll share a trick that some may find useful:

https://www.westfloridacomponents.com/R ... citor.html

I've used these .015/630V film caps in a few modded Marshall type builds in positions that normally use a .022uF cap.

These builds have been especially good sounding.

I've never heard of the brand "Full" before and I don't know if these are polyester, polypropylene, or other film. The info is a little thin in the description.

I just know the amps I've built with them are very good sounding.

And I've got enough of them to last a lifetime.

Would I have experienced similar results had I used OD 715 .015uF caps ? Or other .015uF caps ?

I don't know--- I used these and they worked out very well.

Use or ignore this info as you see fit.

Hoffman has them but they are rated for 500V.

Ordered a bunch from West Florida Components. Great prices and super fast shipping. Did a Mouser order at the same time and they both showed up today.

Thanks for the tip!

Noticed in the pic it says PPD on the right side of the cap. Could stand for PolyPropylene Dielectric? Who knows though.

Yes, I've seen that and speculated the same thing.

It might indicate that.

Or it might not.

I have no info to support either possibility.
