Spacer under transformers?

Post by Koolaide »

Hi all. Hope you are well and safe.
As many of you know I am in the process of building an Express. I have determined that I would like to use some small spacers under the transformers for clearance. I have some that look to be about an 1/8 inch or a little less ( haven't actually measured) they are plastic, maybe nylon maybe not. Should I be concerned about heat melting them? Any other ideas.
Peace,
Jim

Where do you need the extra clearance?

Anyway, I would just use one or more additional steel nuts as spacers.

Thanks Aaron,(Jim slaps head and says why didn't I think of that) I am using classic tone transformers, and they set really flat against the chassis, and I would like a little more clearance as several of the power board standoffs mount under them. I think I will follow your advice and use a steel nut.
Peace,
Jim

I doubt melting would be a problem, unless something was going horribly wrong, but lots of plastics get brittle over time. If one or more of the spacers were to crack and fall off, the transformer could make some funky sounds, especially if that lets the nuts holding the laminations together wiggle loose.
