Hey group,
My build plan is starting to come together and although I'm a bit away from building the head and cabinet, I've got a question about the placement of the reverb tank.
The tank is an 16.5" long spring reverb (unsure why I got one that long!) and my intent was to mount it in the amp head because, well, it's part of the amp! I didn't want to put it in the cabinet as I might move the head around. You can see the tank under the amp chassis in the attached photo.
I'm wondering if there is a risk of electrical noise or vibration in general which might cause errant signals within the tank in this configuration. The tank has some rubber mounting feet and I can add more, just not sure if this seems legitimate or not.
Thanks for your thoughts and comments!

Re: Reverb Tank Placement
Sunn mounted the tank to the top of the head. It's important to keep the sensitive output away from the PT.

Re: Reverb Tank Placement
Thanks! That's another option and it might save me a little height in the amp head construction.

Re: Reverb Tank Placement
Just note that tanks are made for specific mounting positions.
A tank like seen in the photo of this Sunn amp should not be used if it’s going to sit the other way as in a Fender .
Tanks are also made to hang vertically.
The internal portion of the tanks that carry the two long springs and such are set up with the needed support springs to keep this internal portion hanging centered.

Re: Reverb Tank Placement
Yes, I read something about that. I have to check which model I bought, I "think" it's supposed to be mounted downwards, so I might consider buying one that can hang from the top of the amp head to save a little space.

If you are building the head case yourself and you have the kind that calls for the open side down, you can place a shelf at the top of the case to hold the tank. You just need a couple of holes for the wires, or a couple of notches at the edge of the shelf. Or you can build a compartment at the bottom and line it with foil. You can use ordinary white glue and ordinary kitchen use heavy duty aluminum foil. You can figure out how to use what you have!
