hello.
I'm planning a Matchless DC30 clone.
What was most perplexing when I looked at the circuit was that a separate effects loop was assigned to each channel.
I think this is probably because the preamplifier channels are input into separate grids from the phase inverter.
I'm not sure if FX Loop is that useful for this type of amplifier. I'm thinking about just skipping it.
If I install the FX Loop with the same configuration as the original amplifier, it would be very inconvenient to have to change the send/return cable every time you change the channel.
If the part leading from preamplifier - fx loop - phase inverter is configured as follows, will there be a big difference from the original amplifier?
Additionally, I have a question about the effectiveness of FX Loop.
The Loop of this amplifier is a passive loop.
If I increase the volume of the preamplifier, the loop effect will obviously not work properly. Is it okay to not install an active loop circuit?
And this amplifier seems to have a type of circuit that produces more distortion from the phase inverter/power amplifier than from the preamplifier.
On this amp, is there much difference between connecting effects such as delay to the FX Loop and connecting it to the preamp input?

Re: Questions about the Matchless DC30 Effects Loop and Phase Inverter
Hiya
i built a DC30 clone, and its bloody lovely. The FX loop is not super useable however. Ive put a dumbleator in it but it induces a fair amount of hum in the output which isnt a problem in the ODS I also built..
My thoughts are that the DC30 is a wonderful thing, and basically passive fx loops arent worth it.
I often put reverbs and delays in front, or just use it dry.
Would love to hear if anyone else has figured out a use for th fx loop with any particular outboard fx loop buffer...

skip the loop, do an ac30

I also don't quite understand why this type of amp has an FX loop. Since it is an amp where ultimately need to drive PI or power tubes to get a dirty sound, I wonder what the point of an FX loop is.LegendaryCheddar wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 5:53 pm Hiya

Although it uses a different circuit, I have a DIY Bogner Ecstasy, and when using Plexi mode, there is little difference whether connect the FX to the input or the loop. That is because that mode also ultimately uses the power amp drive.
Yes. I plan to skip it. Thank you for your opinion.
