Matamp Gut Shots

Post by Ron Worley »

It's a slow afternoon, so I decided to take and post some shots of my Matamp C7 per request by Noel Grassy.

I've also included some shots of my Mate Rob's custom Matamp G1 for your review.

These are extremely well built. My only picky point is that they use fairly cheap unsealed pots. Other than that, it a brute.

Check them out: www.matamp.co.uk

Sorry for some of the shots-taken fast and blurry- a new camera and I have not really gotten the hang of it (damned auto focus)...

Ron

Kee Ryst! Those are some bulletproof looking amps my friend. I love that your little charmer's cathode biased. Are those 6V6's in your's? What rectumfrier tube does yours use? The choke they used in yours is larger
than the puppy in my Komet 60!! 8)
Your mate's amp looks more serious than anything I've seen from Matamp. Lifetime guarantee is hard to argue with for any product let
alone an amp with such an elaborate layout.
Why is it that GB has a notorious history with their auto's electricals and
clearly there's some very capable engineers on their soil? There was a
supplier here for my Triumph with a bumper sticker that read:
Lucas switch= Off-Dim-Flicker

Thanks for sharing your British amp pron!

Amp porn indeed. Very winsome looking innards and outards. It's refreshing to see layout that differs from Leo's for a change.

I've got a stock GT1 (see other thread). They are Heavy buggers; the OT is huge. The circuit boards are really turret boards with traces on the underside. All discrete components are soldered to turrets or chassis mounted components (pots, sockets).

This is great!

I've never actually seen the inside of one of these before! The GT1 is somehow similar to an old Orange head, right? So who knows what the coupling & bypass cap values look like? Man I wish I could look inside one of these...

Gents, IF anyone would like any more detailed shots of specific areas on the GT1 can you let me know pretty soon? I have actually sold this head and will be taking it back "Home" to the Factory on the 17th of this month when I will not only meet its New Owner, but will be taking delivery of a GT 120. 8)

For Preying_V This is basically the Orange 120 as was, so internally at least it will give you much more of an idea.

The ONLY reason that I am parting with the GT1 is entirely down to the generosity of Ron. The advent of "Carol" has lead to a phenomenal idea for what will be "My" Ultimate Rig.

The GT120 will provide all the glorious Cleans that I so Love and "Carol" will handle all Driven duties. Because when I commissioned the GT1 I had NO idea that one day I would be the proud owner of a TrainWreck style amp, I had various "mods" built in. These work superbly, BUT..... at a compromise. There is a particular Matamp sound that I adore and the GT1 sadly hasn't quite got it. So, from here on in I will have The Warm, Organic, Hi Fi Like Cleans sorted.

For an example of what I am talking about, listen to either "Pilgrimage" or "Argus" by Wishbone Ash. THAT is my idea of a GREAT Classic UK Guitar sound. 8)

Thanks for the photos and personal comments...

WA's "Jail Bait" has much in commun with another favorite band of mine Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac...

I'm presently reading "Matamp at 60" by Martin Celmins...so anything Matamp is most welcome...

Matamp is being sold at a shop (Moog Audio) only a few blocks from my house...

Keep up the good work and have fun!
