Asteroid 60

Post by M Fowler »

Well I finally got a chance to set back up and run my voltage on the Asteroid 60 amp. This is going to be one fun amp for gigging. The harmonics are nice. The fast/gradual switch will take some getting used to but kicks in nice. I tested it with a GT12-100 Celestian 4 ohm as my other speakers are stored for safety. The flood isn't over yet. I could not upload a document, sorry. Mark

I asked Distortions to hold off shipping my head cab until flood is offically over.

Here is a few pictures of the amp on the bench.

Allyn Meyers, Barry Witt or any one else got layout for converting to a foot switch controlled fast/gradual set-up?

Thanks Tubetwang,

I picked up a Zoom H4 digital recorder and when I can get setup I will do some recording. When I do manage to get a recording completed do I have to put it out on a host site such as myspace to be able to provide it here?

Colossal,

Thanks, I tried it tonight with a 212 cab loaded with G12H and 25w green back for different voicing and it was great. I know that I am going to need a foot switch to kick in that fast/gradual for lead runs. I doubt if I need to build a 80w express now that I have this but maybe a 60w Rocket would be fun. I find that I rarely use a mid knob and don't care much for prescence knobs either so the 60-80w Rocket would suit me fine.

I would recommend this asteroid 60 for those who want clean rhythm, twist the volume a little more gain for blues, just a little more with girth for some ZZ top stuff and finally kick it in around 2 to 3 o'clock for some Rock. I will wait for my family to get out of the house before I wrestle my 4x12 back down to the basement for the real test.

Well Distortions said the cab will soon be ready to ship and he did a great job on it and will do final buffing soon.

Amazing cab!

Excuse my ignorance but what does the Fast/Gradual switch actually switch and what effect does it have?

On V1b plate, there is an 82k and a 22k between plate and V+. The junction for going to the next stage is selectable from either right at V1b plate as normal, or after the 82k, between the 82k and 22k. if that makes sense

The Fast /Gradual switch is a plate load switch. Usually an 82K and 22k resistor in place of the standard 100K plate resistor. Basically the signal has to travel back through the 82K resistor to the next stage , reducing it's gain.

Dana and Allyn have made a circuit board to allow a foot switch to toggle the circuit.
