That is one serious awesome groove with great tone and playing. Very nicely done. also enjoyed the playful comic relief ending after such a seriously cool vibe.
I added an active effects loop onboard to one of the Tweed Overdrive Specials that I built. I like it ALOT! I'm running digital delay thru it and it gives it a very clear HUGE tone.
I opted to use Dana Hall's VVR in both of my TOS builds instead of the dual gang 250k. However, DaGeezer reports being very pleased with the PPIMV using the dual gang pots.
The 10-02-10 is the last schematic I got from DaGeezer & he is now using EL34's.
The schematic with the VVR is mine & I use some different values in my build (much as some of the Dumble clone builders use values to suit their personal tastes).

I had finally chance to try my TOS- build at band reherseals and was very pleased how it sounded. I changed the 470R's at power tubes to as high as 3k9's and the amp sounds very, very good now. I was about to record clips but our Presonus Firepod audio interface turned out to be broken
The power amp has been quite tight sounding during all dumble versions that has been on the box but now it works really good. I think Your cathode bias amp might not need 3k9's in there but my amp sounds really good with them.
Thanks again for the very inspirational amp design ! I'll record a clip if I get the Firepod working.
Thanks everyone for the info. I have a design I've made once before that combines a TR Express pre with a Dumble OD section. It's very good, and my current build on it is awaiting some PC boards.
But,...from the design layout and the clips, I think this is the amp I've been wanting to build. I love the smoothness plus the harmonic "feedback" that seems to work well at fairly low levels. Started my chassis last night!
The schematic shown is the Tweed Overdrive that does not have the effects loop. I used it as the example because the other TOS has even more changes from the original design. I simply drew it to show how it's installed. The TOS that does have the effects loop has it installed just like this.
I used node B for both plates because the prior nodes are controlled by the VVR. It works fine for me & with delay gives the amp a huge tone.
Wow... this design sounds stellar. Hats off to 10thTx and Da Geezer.
The Tweed Overdrive Special just might be my next build... I can "dream", can't I?
I was just wondering... How much gain is there on tap?
And secondly... I've got all the components for a Quad el84 power amp (ala AC-30-4/ Stangray) sitting in a box, on the floor of my linen closet. Are there any thoughts/opinions as to the possible outcome of "marrying" the two? Thanks.
Cheers,
Rob

EL84's are my favorite tube......I have run the TOS preamp into a 2xEL84 poweramp & it is excellent sounding.
If I built another, it would be with a 4xEL84 power section, with the ability to select between 2x or 4x tubes.
Tuned right, a 2xEL84 amp is REALLY LOUD with plenty of headroom for non-stadium gigs.
