Check out the chassis I designed.

Post by Joost »

I am kinda stoked! Here is the chassis I spent many an evening designing. Getting each hole right. It's 3 mm gauge aluminium which is about 1/8" thickness. The chassis is 19.5" x 8.625" x 2.5" for a Dumble/Two Rock hybrid build.

Let me know what you think. It'll get powder-coated early next week!

That looks great!
What program did you design it in?

Nice!

How did you cut the openings?

Are you sure you don't mean 3/16" thick?

Don't let that smoke out!

Nice...

Is powder coating a good idea? Naked metal seems to be for a reason.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

No issues with it.

Just tape off your ground points.

Nice looking chassis. 3 mm is less than 1/8" or 0.118" to be exact.

*ahem* I used illustrator to draw exactly to scale. I can send the PDF to an acquaintance who has a water jet machine which can read PDF files and he cut the aluminum sheet.
I will NOT be powdercoating the inside. Just the outside!

I think I meant 1/8"

Very nice! That would probably look great polished up as well.
If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

when you powder coat, you want to make sure the holes are just a tiny bit bigger than they are supposed to be, because the powder actually adds a little thickness. If you file them back out, you can chip the paint by accident.

Wiggle room when powder coating is a good thing!

Man those holes look great. I should make a few calls around here and get a jobshop to waterjet and bend my stuff up. This unibit drilling is for the birds...that chassis looks perfect!
