Owl Lumber of Manheim in Des Plaines. Man that place has everything!

Not sure about prices but I picked up some wood there today. thought I'd share if you didn't know about this place already. (NW burbs)

I go to the Lombard shop fairly regularly. Prices are reasonable and they have a good selection of exotics and baltic birch. I never buy their pine though, usually they are a tad high compared to big box weekly sales.

Bonus, they are open 7 days a week!

Yeah Owl is a great place to go for wood. I've been to the Lombard and Des Plaines store. The Des Plaines store is their biggest store.

Then you have about 20.00 for shipping.The wood is ready to build with I just don't know on average how much these woods go for.Both purchases were just enough to do a standard TW head cab.Do you guys think the prices are fair,Thanx,Mikey

Depends on the figuring, but it sounds like decent pricing.

Where did you get it from? I'm looking to build a combo, and I need some decently figured wood.

Ok,I got the maple at curleymaple.com,Decent amount of figure.Check out my post "rocket up and running sound beautiful"The next pc.should be hear today from curlymaplewood.com.He has a bunch to choose from with pictures and prices.My pc is 1104-35 or something.That piece was 79.00 and the curly cherry looks awesome.Ill post some pics when I get it.Im going to get some shop equipment and try to find nice wood in rough cut.Im going to get planner and joiner.Here in Pa. there is a lot of wood around.Ill keep ya posted brother,Mikey

Forgot,It would be cool to find some birdseye maple.Or maybe do cherry and then a maple valence.Mikey

I got one piece of paduak 11"x0.5"x9' should be plenty to do two head cabs for $70.

They had curly maple/cherry about similar size for 120-130 i think...so seems pretty close but no shipping. My office is 4 blocks from the des plaines location so its a no brainer and i get to look/touch.

I used to drool over at the Lombard location especially about 6 months ago,

They had a huge slab of Bubinga that had some really wild grain. Must have been about 10' long, 3' wide 5/4 or 6/4 thick.
If I still worked in the cab shop, I would have likely bought it and made a few guitar tops. re-saw & the yield would have offset the cost.

I hate going in there, my pockets are always lighter than planned after I leave.

You might check out C R Muterspaw Lumber from Xenia, Ohio... they have a great online store that allows you to view the actual board you are considering purchasing... it's not Chicago local, but their prices are very fair...
