first channel switching amps?
What are some of the first channel channel switching tube amps?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: first channel switching amps?
Mesa Boogie Mark IIB
Re: first channel switching amps?
Also 1980, but the Park 1210 had a very unique and primitive foot-switching arrangement.

Re: first channel switching amps?
Are these basically removing a gain stage?
Re: first channel switching amps?
The Park is bypassing the first stage, but just check out the schematics to see for yourself.
Re: first channel switching amps?
So far Mesa Mark II is the first reference of channel switching tube amp I've encountered followed very closely by Jim Kelley's FACS, which also combined the channel switching scheme to a switchable output attenuator.
As far as channel switchers in general go, the first ones I'm aware of are GMT amps from mid 1970's (and these preceded Boogie by few years) but these were solid-state amps so I guess they don't fit the focus of this thread. Footswitch operated "fuzz/distortion" circuits have naturally been around even few years longer than that.

Re: first channel switching amps?
Seems right so far. I have a couple early Sundowns, incredible ptp handbuilds with entirely separate channels, but they didn't get going until 1983. Then disappeared way before scheduled. Things were lookin' good for a little while...teemuk wrote:So far Mesa Mark II is the first reference of channel switching tube amp I've encountered followed very closely by Jim Kelley's FACS, which also combined the channel switching scheme to a switchable output attenuator.

down technical blind alleys . . .

When did Dumble start building the ODS?
"Running on empty" was '77..... Didn't David Lindley use his snakeskin ODS on that song?

Or are we only talking about discrete fully separate channels?

When I got my IIb back in 79 or 80, it was the only one I knew of. It still lives with me -
