Question about reverb problem.

Post by psychepool »

Recently I made a lunchbox sized Dumble.
I added a tube drive reverb with this idea.

May be somthing was changed, but almost same with that layout.
Use Hammond 1750A for reverb driver and use short tank that has same spec with deluxe reverb.

It has a problem : it does not always work.
It sometimes works, but sometimes doesn't works.
If once it works, it keeps working. But if it doesn't work, it is not working at all.
When I hit the amp head hard for shake the reverb tank, sometimes it works again.

What's the cause of this problem?
I try other reverb tank that has same spec. but has the same problem.
I change other RCA cable but the symptoms did not improved.

Give me advise for solve this problem please.

loose connection/cold solder joint. try reflowing the new bits.

Or loose socket pin-clamp. try re-tensioining (with the amp switched off, unplugged and caps discharged).

You need to first narrow things down here!

When the reverb fails and you pound in the tank do you hear the springs crash, if not then your issue is on the recovery / output side of the tank.
If you do hear the reverb crash then the failure is on the drive side of the tank.

Exactly same layout. Exactly same problem.

I have changed every component but the reverb pan or transformer or the tube socket. I have tried few fresh tubes and new cabels without help.

Nowdays the reverb hardly works at all. I will try the Stevem's suggestion asap.

I have been thinking of swapping the reverb to dumbleator and using some nice pedal reverb with the amp..

I'd rather spend a tube on a buffered effects loop. Reverb pedals sound good and it makes the amp more versatile. More reliable also as the reverb tank is fragile. I've built my last amp with a reverb pan.
Tube junkie that aspires to become a tri-state bidirectional buss driver.
