I need some shielded cable like used in amps to connect the input jacks and tone controls (1 conductor + shield).
So far, Mouser has been my only hit but I don't want to buy a 100' roll.
Anybody got a good connection?

I use Canare GS-4 which I buy from Redco: https://www.redco.com/Canare-Instrument-Cable/
I also buy my PTFE tubing from them: https://www.redco.com/Redco-TT250.html
They're pretty quick to ship and I've been happy with them.

If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

Thanks for the tip. Looks good. Is it safe to assume this stuff doesn't melt instantly when you try to solder it?echuta13 wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 4:38 am I use Canare GS-4 which I buy from Redco: https://www.redco.com/Canare-Instrument-Cable/

What do you use the tubing for?

Not sure exactly what you are look for but: McMaster Carr sells RG174 in 25 foot minimum.....Hoffman over at EL34 World sells RG174 by the foot
Re: Source for shielded hookup wire?
The cable holds up well to heat so shouldn't be a worry. The PTFE tubing is for lead isolation for off-board components. Takes heat exceptionally well.clarkleach wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 5:22 am

I just use rca cables from old tv and stereo equipment. Its shielded and basically free. Who doesnt have 2 or 3 cables hiding in a closet somewhere?

Re: Source for shielded hookup wire?
I've started using what I call faux-shielded cable for my builds. I take a regular wire and make whatever connection I'm making. Then I take another wire, ground one end, and wrap it around the other wire. I leave the other end unattached, and use heat shrink tubing for the last inch or two to keep the whole thing from unwrapping.
Basically I hated cutting and stripping shielded cable, so I found another way. I don't build super high gain amps, but it seems to work.

My experience is that Steve at Apex Jr will fix you up with a small quantity for a reasonable price.

I like the idea of making your own. I don't like striping and soldering the shield either, and I often find the inner wire uncooperative.
