Hey all,
My 100 and 50W amps are total gems to me, loosely based on the TR JM series, but with Fender tone stacks, different cathode bypass caps, and a few other changes. Those are my goto amps when I can use them. I have some show regionally up here in the PNW, and volume is a big issue up here. I played last year in Portland my my Vibrolux behind a plexi shield, and I thought the soundman was gonna have a meltdown!
Anyway, I needed an amp that was a little lower in volume. I have a bunch of Fenders, but my Vibrolux Reverb is my fave of the bunch for volume vs tone.
I got a MM OT that has the standard 4R tap for the cab, but also an 8R and 16R tap as well. I really like this amp running through my 2 12 Matchless cab.
The reverb tank had a nice Fender sound but it was a little sproingy. I had a Mod tank that I tried in the amp. I really liked the tone of the reverb, but it was a bit overwhelming. I put a dwell pot in place of the trem pedal jack, and holy moly, does it sound good! I'm able to pull the dwell back a bit and it allows the reverb to really surround the sound without turning into soup.
Anyway, in my never ending search for great tone in packages that are usable, I am really happy with this solution and just wanted to share!
Peace
Ian
