Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere (i swear I checked), but what are people doing for the rheostat in DIY Airbrake builds now that the one listed in the parts list is going for over $300 in the USA?
Seems like part #588-RJS150E and all possible equivalents that i found on a quick google search made the project prohibitively expensive.

Re: Airbrake Rheostat?
How about you build it with a $30 20 watt 50 ohm rheostat and then with a rotory switch between a number of 20 watt 25 ohm resistors?
Something like this should be no more then 70 bucks.

Yes, the price of Ohmite rheostats has absolutely and laughably skyrocketed in price. Except nobody's laughing because it's so insulting. As Steve said, maybe find something close or surplus. I bought a 35 ohm 50W reasonably for an attenuator project but that was a one off.

Okay, thanks for the confirmation!
Sounds like rolling with what is available and adjusting the circuit as needed is the best move going forward. Thanks again!
