Prius V commercial

I don't usually pay attention to commercials on TV, but one caught my eye. The latest Prius V commercial has significant face time with Dr. Z amps. It's almost as much of a Dr.Z ad as it is a Prius ad. Interesting.

Dr. Z - did they approach you, or you them, about this? Did you pay to have your amp included? Just wondering why a guitar amp figures so heavily in a Prius ad.

Love the pic. A few years ago, one of the history/science/learning type channels had a series where they built really big stuff. One of the items they built was a 30 foot long guitar and they got Peter Frampton to play it for them. At the end of the show, he suggested that next time he would prefer to bring his own guitar and have them build a really big amplifier.

As the link explains they approached me, and bought the amp used in the comercial. I had to sign a release, and not post anything about it till the comercial was aired.
Believe me I was as shocked as everyone by my good luck, but all along I had the feeling it wouldn't be shown, it was in the works for about it for about 9 months. Glad my feelings were wrong.

That crossed my mind too, but it's not like the ad agency couldn't have just created a generic guitar amp shape and made it any color they wanted. It'd be interesting to know the back story on how they picked the Z amp, and there just has to be one...

I thought there might be something like that going on, but then again a subtle apeal to a different demographic than the one that has been buying Prius cars isn't a bad idea either.

There's something not quite right with that picture.
