Not me, but here's some tone info:
http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Bodies/Op ... tions.aspx
Comparing it to their description of the Strat-standard Alder gets you a calibration for the tone-o-meter graphic.

Real dry open grained wood is resonant as all hell. A nice tonal thing between basswood and mahogmny.. monogamy.. monotony..

Thumpy without dull!

Thanks for the info. I've been trying to convince myself I need another guitar. I am kind of interested in the chambered strats at Warmoth and what one of those in black korina would sound like.

I know it's sacrilege but...
An old guy (luthier) swears that for resonance in acoustic guitars balsa wood is great. Cheap but hard to market as expensive for the major guitar makers. Methinks the same should apply to chambered electric guitars ???
He also has 2 original Gibson Paf's - paper label & all.
Should give some indication where he got his wood experience from.
Sorry to derail a little - damn those mandolins

I had a beater basswood acoustic I bought in a town somewhere in Mexico. Nylon strings ya know. Not bad, but not sturdy either.

Cypress makes a good electric body, or spanish cedar with a slab spruce top but a GREAT wood is paulownia. If you ever liked a super light swamp ash, be afraid! Very similar sound at sometimes HALF the weight of even the lightest feather weight pieces of ancient swamp ash.

Those are fantastic. I love the way hollowbodies sound with real PAFs. Phenomenal and just killer into a high gain circuit.

Alex Lifeson - Rush/Rush through Hemispheres - White 355 into a Marshall
BB King
Pete Thorn (Carl Martin Plexitone pedal demo,335 + PAFs)
Allan Holdsworth - Hollowbody guitars (Carvin, Delap, Canton) with a Seymour Duncan double-screw '59 (low output) in bridge position only

One of my old roommates had a korina Ibanez Destroyer that was just a killer guitar. You get the sound of mahogany without the weight. IME this wood is great into circuits that handle a Les Paul style guitar well usually as it really is very similar in tone. The Warmoth site says korina has a bit more mids and I can't say I disagree with that but it's been a while since I played a guitar made of this.

I've never heard a chambered korina guitar (to my knowledge) but I suspect it would be a really cool sounding guitar. And you can play it all night without your neck hurting..

I have a chambered black korina strat body from warmoth. It is different from the regular Fender wood recipe- to me it sounds more like mahogany. It is a nice sound, but not your "classic" strat tone. I like it alot and am glad I have it.
If you are going to have one built, pay the up charge to pick the top. I didn't and got one that looks like it should be a piece of furniture. Black Korina can look pretty cool if you get the right piece

It's beautiful.

Korina is a whole lot like really good mahogany, but just a bit more resonant dimension vs weight.
