About a song

Post by Reeltarded »

When I listen to music I try not to hear the instruments. One thing really helps. A good song performed well.

Whatever you click will be awesome.

Love her.

I struggle to give words to what makes a great singer. I see talented people on shows like American Idol that can do all these runs with their voice, but somehow still see them lacking.

For lack of a better term, I call it emotional honestly. Michael Stipe might not have the greatest voice in the world, but his delivery is so full of honesty. You've got to convince me that the words you're saying/singing represent pain you've felt. You're not singing a fucking song, you're living a fucking song.

American IDroll?

Hrmph.. in my alternate reality ot would be a trap to catch crappy talentless attention whores in. After you get on the show, you and everyone you have ever known also make the list of people to be converted into energy for the Matrix.

Blue pill or red. You sing that garbage and you become a module in my power plant.

The songs are written with devices that evoke this on purpose. There is almost always a noteable shift from a major to minor even if it is a passing tone in her voice against the music. These people aren't just good at it, they are great at it. It makes you feel helpless but know the power around you, ya know?

Hard not to take note of such colorful beauty in such a dull sea of dullards. If there is such thing as a musical star, Adele is the one.

Got that right - perfect way to put it.

Ms Peyroux there - that's one of the smoothest things I've heard in a very long while. (Shades of one of my all time faves - BH.)

edit: Okay, just listened to a couple more and now I have to go out and get some of her stuff. Thanks, Miles!

Get Careless Love. It's amazing. One of the only things I can listen to again after 6-7 years.

The unreleased version of Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine that is done with the London Symphony Orchestra is also inexplicable. Fabulous perfection without ado. Just there it is.. a little more core than the others, but still great on it's own face.

I LOVE Adele. Been listening to her latest nonstop since I got it. Haven't checked out Bill Withers yet but I will tonight when I get time. Thanks for the heads up.
