Title explains it all. I'm needing a strat type. I think I'd like to build one day but perhaps not yet. A well made import, to which hardware and electrics can be added as budget allows appeals to me.
Any opinions on these two or other strats?
Thanks in advance

Re: MIM Strat vs MIK Tribute Legacy
I would look for an early 90's American Strat Plus or Japanese RI strat if you really want a Fender.
Here's one on eBay for reference:

Here a MIJ 50's RI

Tokai Strats are very nice too

You can a super one at warmoth..(although it might be a bit more expensive)
Re: MIM Strat vs MIK Tribute Legacy
It will be alot easier and cheaper to upgrade the MIM Fender. The MIM Fenders are generally decent. There are still some bad ones though. I have only worked on a few of the MIK G&Ls (2 or 3). I was NOT impressed - granted that's a very small sampling.A well made import, to which hardware and electrics can be added as budget allows appeals to me.

Re: MIM Strat vs MIK Tribute Legacy
I recently bought a MIM Strat, but it is not a Standard ($325). instead, it is a Classic 60's (retail $679, I got for $500). I think its build quality is every bit as good as the $1450 American Vintage, and I am very happy with the purchase.
My experience with the $325 MIM Standard Strats is that their wood can be pretty good, but sometimes it is pretty bad as well. I have played a few where the neck was set poorly into the pocket, and the high E string would fall off of the fretboard when I played it. So, you need to play one in person if you decide to go this way.
