I just saw this. Double pneumonia, at 79. One less outlaw.
When I was a boy I was told that anyone could become President. I`m beginning to believe it--Clarence Darrow

One of the greatest. Drove past his ranch out side of Bakersfield on my way to Lake Isabella many times. Kern River.

His obit made the front page of today's NY Times -- I mean an article below the fold, not a blurb at the bottom -- continued with a full half page before the regular obits. It is not a small thing to get such front page coverage and a testimony to his iconic status. He was larger than life. It was a very sad way to start the day.

I grew up on rock, but in many recent years I've come to have a great appreciation of country and bluegrass music. It truly is Americana.
I have been listening a lot to Merle's stuff in the last few years.
He had a very long productive career. He was a real down to earth man.
I hear Marty Stuart is officiating his funeral. Good choice.
May "The Hag" Rest In Peace!

When I was young I was cocky and tried to dislike Country music but Merle and George and Don Williams always found their way into my heart. Just so real. I wish country could still be. It's out there but you have to look for it. I wish a buck was still silver and a joint was a bad place to be!
I've got blisters on my fingers!
