Saw the movie Becoming Led Zeppelin tonight

Post by Mark »

Okay, disclaimer I’m a fan of the band.

I liked the movie and I wasn’t bored despite having read about the band and Jimmy Page. There was commentary by John Bonham too.
Yours Sincerely

Glad to hear it from a fan and a musician. Seems like a we'd be a very specific audience to please, so this is what I needed to hear to get me to see it.

I really enjoyed it! Lots of archival footage and photographs, including several early full-length live song performances. The remainder is recently filmed interviews with Page, Jones, and Plant individually. Bonham is represented by old recordings, photos, and film. It's focused on the origin story and up to LZII. Run time is 2:02, which is padded out a bit by the concert footage. I came away with a better appreciation for the talent level in the band, and Page's role in bringing it together and producing the albums.

Is it a musical?

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Why yes I suppose it is!

If you're a fan of Page's guitar playing there are plenty of sequences to be studied closely. It was also interesting to see shots of the audiences in the early days, the first US tour, with fresh faced young people looking on. Very '60's, and very different from the reputation the band and their fans acquired in the '70's. They all seem very respectable now, and of course they should be respected. Add rock and rollers to politicians, ugly buildings and whores who last long enough.

A favourite Robert Towne quote.
