Rick Derringer

Post by Reeltarded »

So, Good Dirty Fun had just come out and Rick was on a tour supporting a related lessons video.

We went down to Manhattan Music and watched his couple hour presentation. Let me be extremely clear.

Rick Derringer plays faster than you. He can do that with no gain. You are pretending to play guitar. Rick Derringer was not pretending.

So, this is where I am about to make a mistake. He ends up invited to come do Wednesday lunch at Snow White's where me, John, and Tim Bogert ate tuna sandwiches every week. Tim had a Volkswagen with a polaroid of a Pantera wrapped around a telephone pole taped to the dash. This started a weird tirade that was based on a religious thing I won't get into.

Rick Derringer was insane. OG crazy.

Welp
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

I met him and talked to him twice. Saw him do a show once, and he was renting one of my Marshall half stacks for the backline that evening,
and it was the only gear he used that night that gave him no trouble at all, it just worked.

Hell of a nice guy, and a legitimately first rate player. The Real Deal. That man could PLAY.

I've never met RD in person though I've seen him live many times. Come to think of it, he was the warm-up band at the first stadium rock concert I'd ever attended -- Aerosmith / Jeff Beck / Derringer on the Aerosmith "Rocks" and Beck "Wired" tour. Summer of 1976. Looking back on it, I was very fortunate to have attended such a great show.
