Rant #1

Post by drhulsey »

There has been discussion on another thread about, lawyers, insurance companies, etc. The egregious behavior of insurance companies was mentioned. That is the reason for the proliferation of lawyers in the personal injury trade– to fight all-powerful, Draconian insurance companies.
One problem I have with the trial attorneys is, "Get the money you deserve!"
Now, we might look at a situation and feel very compassionate toward the victim. We might feel like the guy who injured them SHOULD pay their bills, etc.
In reality, nobody DESERVES anything.
We all are the product of a near impossible union of sperm and egg that may or may not grow. If we grow to 2 cells, 4 cells, 8 cells...... we might make it through 9 months submerged in the dark, 98.6 degree womb. If we survive that, we may or may not survive being squeezed out through an opening that is too small to face a bright, cold, microbially infested world. Except for the genetically innate urge our mothers have to nurture us, we wouldn't survive more than a few miserable, dehydrated days.
If our parents take even minimal care of us, we live to face (including, but not limited to) traffic, abuse, fights, bicycles, cars, guns, infection, and injuries from other negligent human beings. If we survive all that and live to our life expectancy, we still have to succumb to something! Who deserves to get heart disease? Who deserves to get cancer, pneumonia, bed sores, urinary tract infection? Who ya gonna sue, now? God?
You, me, and everybody else deserve NOTHING :!:
Here me? NOTHING
If you die in your sleep at age 90, you're merely LUCKY
You deserve only what you're willing to work for, while fully aware that you may never get it. Just think of all the stories you've heard about a man who was a runner all his life; ran marathons several time a year; never ate a fat cell; but who fell over dead from a cardiac arrhythmia!
You, me, and everybody else deserve NOTHING :!:
If your egg gets fertilized, if you're borne, if you live any time at all– you're LUCKY
My advice to me and you– GET OVER IT
Work hard, be honest, be compassionate, and have fun

Dr. Tim.... first of all "HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!" wishing you and your familily a very safe, happy and prosperous season.

#2 - +100!

-Steve (I couldn't agree more)

"We, the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid any more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior and secure the
Blessings of debt-free liberty to our great-great-great grandchildren, and ourselves hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt-ridden, delusional and other liberal, bed wetter. We hold these truths to be self-evident: That a whole lot of people were confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim that require a Bill of No Rights.

ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone - not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.

ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we?re just not interested in health care.

ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim or kill someone, don?t be surprised if the rest of us to want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don?t be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won?t have the right to a big-screen color TV or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII: You don?t have the right to demand that our children risk their lives in foreign wars to soothe your aching conscience. We hate oppressive governments and won?t lift a finger to stop you from going to fight if you?d like. However, we do not enjoy parenting the entire world and do no want to spend so much of our time battling each and every little tyrant with a military uniform and a funny hat.

ARTICLE IX: You don?t have the right to a job. All of us sure want all of you to have one, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.

ARTICLE X: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to pursue happiness - which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an overabundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

I got no rants so far this year. I still got the same leg I had three months ago, the boat is still afloat, I saw the crash of '08 coming and will likely make pretty good money on the turn around, I got two old dogs that love the smell of my breath first thing in the morning, even if my wife doesn't. I am blessed with many good and decent friends and I have a loving creator who wants to be in personal relationship with me.

Not too bad really.

Wow, and I thought I was running on the outer circles of thought. We don't "Deserve" anything, but there are times when civil "justice" is called for imho; purposeful and willfull dimunation of someones quality of life. Long story short, if someone hurts you in a way that is permanent, and it is apparent they -meant- to do so, both criminal and civil actions are merited. Not a proffesional error in judgement, nor an honest mistake, but premeditation.

My rant is ENTITLED. Substitute most instances of "deserve" in Doc's rant, and I'm done.

Kudos, Doctor, on a Well Crafted Rant.

I like the sperm 'n' egg bit. My cousin frequently yelled at his kids, "Shuddup! You used to live in my balls!"

My neighbor passed away a couple months ago at the ripe old age of 92. That leaves me as the crankiest crank for miles in any direction, he had me beat by a wide margin. He disliked absolutely everyone, except, strangely enough, me. Birds of a feather I guess.

He had been diagnosed with throat cancer back in '78, "go home" his doctor told him, "nothing else we can do". His doctor died in around '88 and Old Boy just kept right on truckin'. He slowed down about three years ago after he fell down while fishing and broke his hip.

Don't get me wrong, Dan. I am also blessed in more ways than I can tell you. My parents were hard workers who never had much, but they gave me the opportunity to get educated. I took the baton and worked hard getting educated to show them how much I appreciated their support. I also had lots of 120+ hour weeks of work as a surgery resident. The same thing has been done by many more people than me and in many different professions.
But having worked hard to get here, it just sticks in my craw to here people talk about what they deserve

Yeah, I know Tim. I'll be on a rant before you know it. The one that's got you going is one of my favorites. Falls under the category of "Don't get me started".

Just say something nice about the Democrats and I'm off to the races. Bad habit. Go Barak. I hope I'm so happy with you I vote for you in four years. But in the mean time all you SOB's lay offa G.W.

etc. etc.

I have said that exact phrase to some of my Democrat band mates. I pray he will do so well... that the country, economy, world, etc., is doing so well in 4 years that I want to vote for him 8) Heaven help us if it's not :(
In truth, I'm not sure a President can change the economy.

They might not be able to fix it, but they sure can destroy it. Just look at FDR.

We need another Grover Cleveland or Calvin Coolidge.

More vetos than all other presidents combined, 4 hour naps every day. My kind of president.

Wonder if we could get Congress to take 4 hour naps every day! That would be 20 hours a week they weren't spending our money

Milton Friedman had his moments. He blamed air conditioning on the then current state of a useless Congress. No one in their right mind would stay in D.C. during the summer, if not for AC. More legislation = bad legislation.

Remember when Newt Gingrich was in Congress, and sometimes they would run out of stop-gap funding, and the government would have to shut down :?: I have never felt better 8)

I have worked for the Government for 29 years and when the continuing resolution won't go through they would send the non-essential personnel home and people like me stayed and took care of the veterans. They always said it was without pay but we always got paid. The veterans were always so thankful that we were there for them. Of course we would be there, we care! If I didn't like helping veterans so much I wouldn't have minded be sent home for an unexpected paid vacation like the rest.

This year the budget went right through in October. October to October is VA's fiscal year. We are down in full time employee staffing, due to cutbacks from the prior administrations. However, veteran numbers increased so much that now we are really behind and need trained employees. Hopefully that will happen this year. Also, remember baby boomers are at the retirement age so it is estimated and has already happened that Government will loose 43 percent of its work force. That should make some of the government bashing and hating guys out there happy. But then whom is going to get the benefits out?

I, for one, would like to be able to say, "Wow! Those Vets are getting more than they deserve!" (although I'm not sure that's possible)
But that ain't happenin' :!:
Now there's a category of people who really do, IMHO, DESERVE IT :!: :!:
If all my tax money went to support our Vets, I wouldn't complain. Unfortunately, a lot of it gets wasted :(
