I just went through successful surgery for skin cancer. It was squamous cell carcinoma, which they tell you is not that dangerous, but hearing the "C" word is nonetheless terrorizing. My wife was a rock for me, even though I suspect she was shaking in her boots also.

Stay strong for her. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask, I'm just a state away.

Your praying and thinking about us is very much appreciated.

On Monday we go in for the full body scan to see where the cancer cells have congregated or spread.

Last August she had her entire Thyroid gland removed. It was a 5 1/2 hour surgery mainly because the surgeon had to shave the cancer off of her Laryngeal nerve which controls the voice box. Without that nerve, she would not be able to speak above a whisper.

With this type of cancer, Papillary Thyroid Cancer, the cancer cells are still thyroid cells so no matter where they spread, the radio active iodine will search them out.
She has been on a no- iodine diet for a couple weeks to starve the thyroid cells.

When she gets the large dose it will kill those cells no matter where they are.

That's the theory anyway.

Really the only thing going against her age, (55)
Up until around age 45 there is about a 99% cure rate.

It goes down just a little bit for each year above that.

She is in great physical shape and most people think she is around 40.

So for now all I can do is support her and pray and let the doctors do their jobs.
