I'm basically a fake guitarist, I've built a fake Dumble-ish amp, and since learning a couple of days ago that there is apparently a thriving Chinese fake Les Paul industry that you can direct-order from on fake-ebay, I'm thinking about buying one of these, or maybe one of these. Any of you have any experience with these "Chibsons"?

[No China rants, please. Even if I was inclined to spend the money for a real one, I wouldn't pay a cent to Gibson under its present ownership, so there is no "lost sale" argument to be made.]

You get what you pay for. It might look like a Gibson but it's not. As far as paying Gibson anything.....I agree with you there. That's why you should buy used.

I got to try out a '56 LP copy with P-90's. Sweet! And even better at @ $350 including shipping.

I t'ink I knows whatcha mean... The fakers are made by China Gibson Corporation which has nothing to do with Gibson USA - except copying some of their most sought-after products. If the prez/chairman/CEO of Gibson USA wasn't busy schmoozing with his "friends" he could have pre-empted them, set up his own China Gibson Corporation plus any other similar names, and at least make the faker makers take another name. Who's minding the store? Apparently not him.

Early 80's there were some very nice Gibson copies made in Japan - under another name. They were called "Burny", but the lettering style was arranged to look an awful lot like "Gibson." From 20 feet away you couldnt tell the difference in the headstock lettering. Put a good set of pickups in, maybe better tuners & you had a dam' good guitar for cheap.

You may count those last two paragraphs as a Gibson rant.

Yup, "Golden Hadware" should be your warning omen.

I like good guitars. Subjective.. hmm..

Welp, since I am a dinosaur I do it old scoo. If you have to sell somthing you hope it's a Fender and that is how we do it. I don't like much made by either company after 1962 though, barring Fender Japan. Those guys make consistantly excellent guitars with the worst electronics ever. Diabloically horrible.

First heads up is that payment is through "AliExpress", which is AliPay:
http://global.alipay.com/ospay/home.htm
They are a third party pay clearinghouse of Asian merchants. They do not verify who is the vendor or where funds are going.
Too much possibility for identity theft.

Fender strats all the way for me, MIA/early MIM versions, all with upgraded electronics, never been able to get on the the Gibson neck, love the sound but the chunky heel and lack of access for the upper frets kills it for me, the only LP I might consider is a Alex Lifeson model but at nearly £3000 sterling its way to expensive for my taste

Vote: Gibson up 2. But their amps sucked, Leo's Fender never made a bad amp, that's worth 2 points. Tie.
That 200 is probably the most awesome guitar I have seen in at least a couple years. ouchy

I started with Fenders because they were within my financial reach. A Mustang in blue then a "real" guitar 1970 Tele. But I craved Gibsons so went for them with a sunburst LP custom, then black beauty, then gold top standard. LP SG jr. was added to the heard.

But slowly Fenders crept back in and the Gibbys went away. Today a Strat and Tele cover everything I want to do..

What's interesting is the guys who were my role models and LP advocates are now Strat players, like Eric, Jeff etc....plus Jimi was the Strat guy.
Damn I'm old!

Fender or Gibsons? ASAT is neither but my go to guit right now is a G&L ASAT (in the wings are '76 Les Paul Custom, '79 Fender Strat , Epi 335 Elitist) Oh forgot, Tele parts caster in the works,('58 reissue burst body, Hefner rosewood fretboard neck and misc.US parts. Pups and controls after Holidays )

G&L can be tweaked to handle most styles of music through '68 Deluxe (Deluxe courtesy via Tag member ayan)

Next geetaa..

I am thinking about building a Warmoth right hand reverse strat maybe with those new gold foil pups instead of single coils or stacks.

Those fake LP's look sweet.

Mark, in order for that reverse strat to be 'Hendrix authentic', the whammy bar needs to connect at the 6th-string-end of the bridge! :P

I've bought a few things from China, never expensive items but in each case I got what I paid for and the delivery time wasn't bad.

I don't mind knockoffs but they shouldn't have the F or G name on the headstock.

I would rather buy a Bernie or Edwards fake LP.

Mark and Lou,

Also the bridge pickup should be angled back towards the nut ala Hendrix. I think that is truly part of the Hendrix sound. I've changed pups and tried adjusting them up an down but just can't quite hit his sound for the bridge pickup.

Really considering a left hand body...
