Hmm --

Busy with attentions elsewhere. That said, when I do check in it's common to get clean few page loads, and then a 400 or 500 level error. And then back to clean pages. Rinse and repeat.

Seems arbitrary, perhaps load dynamics related. This feels like defects we'd call a Heisen-bug (vs a Bohr-bug) back in past operating system software engineering career days. Hard to track and close. Perhaps a system restart and maybe PHP server configuration tweaks will be enough to restore stability.

Best .. Ian

Seems to be running smoothly this morning? Fingers crossed it was just a hiccup!

Last few days I've encounters a lot of error messages. It seems to be somewhat random, however, once a topic gives an error, it seems to be stuck in that mode. I am using Firefox. This afternoon, I tried Firefox private browsing feature and things seem to be working well and so far no errors. I wonder...what's the difference between private and "regular?" Anyway, I hope the problem gets cured soon.

It IS working more reliably today, though the "unread posts" link I normally use is still broken:

Yea --

For the past two days I've had no issues, including using "unread" quick link bookmark. Safari and Brave on Mac and iOS.

Still having issues here, making the site unusable off and on. I see different views from my MacBook and iPhone. The index page fails to display, or sometimes I get the text only view. Clearing cookies using the link at the bottom of the html page sometimes helps, sometimes not.

Today is the first in a while where the forum has behaved normally for me.

Same here. These type issues don't usually self correct. I wonder who did what?

My guess would be Xtian or Phil.

Alas, I don't have access to the guts of TAG, only the user/forum admin functions.

Huh. Thought Phil gave you the keys to kingdom as he is/was moving on? I know he is periodically around, but not like he was. Hope he is doing well these days. I know there is little that can be done because Allen won't give anyone authority to fix what's broken, which is a shame, and he won't fix it either.

I've done nothing to 'fix' it sometimes the hosting provider does 'upgrades' to the underlying infra and started seeing a ton of errors and realized they broke something and fixed it without us touching it. I have given Xtian admin and moderator status, I think, but the board software is a landmine of complex crap even I rarely touch. There are also some caches that the board manages and maybe something triggered a 'prune' that fixed the bad behavior as well. Honestly we're already on a pretty old version of php and phpbb. I don't have it in me to try to move this again since the owner of the domain doesn't really let me fully do what we need to anyway. Last time I wrote some custom ETL stuff to migrate the db parts that weren't compatible and even that wasn't great, it had limits.

To be completely honest, I'd almost say that creating a new forum with a new name that people could manually migrate content to over time may be a better 'fresh start' if anyone was interested. I have a domain parked once that I copied the forum over to, but I don't really want to just wholesale clone it as that feels a bit dirty, but the content being publicly accessible here means that if we started somewhere else, anyone that was interested could download files on site A and upload them to site B.

at any rate, rant over :D

It's working more or less reliably for me now, but not quite back to the appearance it had a few weeks ago, it's missing some graphics objects. Response is still slow, too.
