I finally got to play my barncaster at a gig (we opened for three Nashville acts!). I recently replaced the inexpensive eBay neck with a custom Warmoth: roasted maple, gold stainless steel jumbo frets, 12-16" compound radius--superb!

At this gig, there was a backline for the bands to use: a Fender HR DeVille. But I have been using, on whim, my Deluxe Reverb build, my 50w ODS, and my 15w Liverpool. All great choices.

Here's a new semi hollow build I'm working on, just put the burst on it yesterday. More coats of clear to come...

NGD! My requirements were
  • Short (24.75") scale
  • Stainless steel frets
  • P90s
  • Under 8 pounds
Looked at the Fender Jim Adkins (too many knobs, don't always like Fender necks), custom Warmoth build (nice but expensive, too many unknowns, long wait for build), and Gibson SG '61 reissue (had one, sold it, regret it, but expensive). But, after looking at a lot of Revstars, I finally found one at 7.5 pounds in the color I wanted, and $800 price was OK. I am very happy with my choice. Looks great, plays great, pickup modes sound great. Only downside, not great for high gain because of trapeze style bridge (strings go ZING!) and chambered body is too lively for high gain (easy feedback, tho!).

I have heard good things about the Revstar guitars. Hopefully you will still be enamoured in a years time. Stainless steel frets are a nice bonus.

Follow-up on the Yamaha Revstar

I sent it back. It's an acceptably good guitar, at $750. I found it comfortable, and the variety of sounds useful. But it didn't fill a gap in my guitar lineup. I have others that do everything better, so back it went.

Sorry to hear it didn’t work out. Not to worry there are plenty of guitars out there.
Yours Sincerely

Have a look at the PRS Soapbar II SE. Made in Korea. Inexpensive slab guitar. P90's. 25" scale. About 6 1/2 pounds. Like any guitar you buy, will probably need a proper setup. Don't know about frets. I think these were made 2005-07. Maybe you'll like it?
