woke up this morning shakin' in ma baed

Post by tubeswell »

Holy cow!. I thought it was the missus trying to get my attention at 4:30am this morning when I felt the bed shaking (so I rolled over and went back to sleep ) Being following the live news feeds all day - makes a change from usual TV programming in this neck of the woods. I feel sorry for the thousands of people whose homes have been destroyed, there's a spot of bad cyclonic weather headed in tonite.

Wow - from the photos I've seen, you're lucky to still have a bed

Best wishes to you and yours through this ordeal :(

Yeah, I saw that on the news.
Glad everybody is OK, looks like it was a real shaker!

Have you ever had earthquakes there before?

A guy I went to school with is vacationing in ChristChurch at the moment. He posted on his facebook the fridge moved a foot and half.

the quake was really close something like 4 miles outside of the city and 41? miles under ground. Luckily their were no tsunami's.

Yeah NZ is on the line between the Australian and the Pacific plates. We get quakes all the time, but that one was the biggest here since 1931. Although all the 'recent quakes' are in the same locality

The tremor near Christchurch was the same strength as the Haiti quake (7.1) - remarkably there were no fatalities

Oh no we will have more New Zealanders moving over here

Seriously not a nice situation and all the best to your family and friends and of course your nation :)
