Man, it seems like every month there's another one of the "greats" having died. Who out there are replacing these guys? I can't tell....very sad.
I'm 47 and when I was like 8 or 9 "Made In Japan" was one of the first rock albums I owned. I used to listen to that album over and over. I always loved live albums. A Hammond through a Marshall. Very cool idea!

I saw Black Oak in around 1978 way after their popularity had died down.Jana wrote:Yes, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Ten Years After, Black Oak Arkansas (remember them?), ZZ Top.
It was at a club called "Earth Quake Ethel's" in Portland.
They had a 15 year old kid playing lead guitar and he was a monster.
At first we thought he was a girl because he had on a pink shirt and looked rather girlish but Jim Dandy introduced him and said what do you think of our 15 year old dude playing lead?
Great concert!
They closed with Dixie.

Don't let that smoke out!

Tom,
That 15 yo kid would have been the great late Shawn Lane. His phrasing / timing and chord structure IMHO were second to none. Another IMHO was that he was one of the greatest "unknown" guitarists....

Sorry for cross posting in Mr. Lord's thread, Shawn truly deserved recognition.
