They've been split up since like 94 but its gotta be my favorite of all time.I think march 16-20 is one of the best albums ever made.
Ithink Jay Farrar Is one of the best songwriters of all time.

Re: Anyone Like Uncle Tupelo
Yes! I like Uncle Tupelo a lot too. They were ahead of the curve in terms of the americana/roots resurgence. Not a lot of the 90's alternative/indie bands were coming from that direction, at least not many my friends and I listened to at the time. Seems like there's a bigger hipster contingent these days into that kind of music.
Farrar does write some great songs, I agree with you there.

Re: Anyone Like Uncle Tupelo
I met Jay A couple years ago When he and Mark Spencer(Awsome guitarist)
Played a show at a festival right here in the middle of no where.
Jay isn't known as a real talkitive guy When I shook his hand I said I'm a really huge fan.He looked me down and then up and said I can see that.
He was super nice to my boy and signed some stuff for him.
For a guy thats known for being kinda aloof he sure was super friendly and talkitive to my old lady.
