High end overdrive
Original screamer - how about this deal?
I bought the same unit from Ray Henning's Heart of Texas music in Austin when I was in college in '81. It was $25.

Re: High end overdrive
The seller's ad is incorrect.
I would not be surprised if some fool pays the Buy It Now price.
Way overpriced, but so many guitarists feel the need to sound like SRV. Even if they haven't bothered to learn how to actually play the guitar anything like him. Garbage in, garbage out in most cases.
No one is bidding on that item. It's a Buy It Now.YOU ARE BIDDING ON AN ORIGINAL IBANEZ 1981-1982 TS-808 TUBE SCREAMER OVERDRIVE PRO !

Huh.... Mouser has 1,527 of the rare TI chip for $0.34 apiece. Now that's rare!

No, it has to be a 4558 made by the Japanese Radio Corporation, the others don't sound the same.JazzGuitarGimp wrote:Huh.... Mouser has 1,527 of the rare TI chip for $0.34 apiece. Now that's rare!

Or, you could just read RG Keen's article where uses some good old science/engineering to determine what new production chips work well in that circuit.

Yea, but the Ebay ad states the the RC is slightly warmer than the JRC and that the RC is the one used by EJ and SRV.

Oops, I missed that part. Something about changing font size and color mid-paragraph throws me off.vibratoking wrote:Yea, but the Ebay ad states the the RC is slightly warmer than the JRC and that the RC is the one used by EJ and SRV.

Re: High end overdrive
Someone gave me a pair of umm.. tweed peavey things at the end of a deal that each had one of these in the back. They are not my favorite drive unit by a mile and a half.

Re: High end overdrive
You'd have to know how to play a strat to enjoy one....that leaves you out......... strat hater! Go play with your P90's!sliberty wrote:Besides, Tube Screamers suck
Re: High end overdrive
Doh - now I understand! After all of these years, I get it. I need a pedal that I don't like in order to make a guitar that I don't like sound half way decent.HeeBGB wrote:You'd have to know how to play a strat to enjoy one....that leaves you out......... strat hater! I wonder if that works with food also. I hate coconut and I don't eat cooked fish. But maybe I would just love baked coconut encrusted salmon.....
NOT!

Re: High end overdrive
But seriously, it makes sense that a guitar with little to no mids would benefit from a TS which is very mid heavy. Not my thing though.
Re: High end overdrive
Wow. I wonder how much I could sucker someone for this old MXR Dyna Comp that's been in my desk drawer? It's not a script version, but hey, even half of $1300 bucks would buy me a lot of beer!
