In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird , and they take Prozac to make it normal.
Re: Doing some hydroponics
Cool do you have some In dirt to compare growth ?
Re: Doing some hydroponics
No, I didn't plant any tomatoes in soil this year as my plants and yield did poorly last year so anything this does should be better.
If this guys videos are any indication I should do very well.
I do have some peppers and cabbage, etc. in my square foot raised beds, but I do want to get a greenhouse up and try the peppers with hydroponics too.
One thing I have going for me now is a longer growing season here in GA than I did in MI.

I've never been able to grow cabbage, it comes out all wimpy and then goes to seed. I have a picture of my great-grandfather in his garden with a bunch of basketball sized perfectly formed heads. I love making sauerkraut and kimchi, but don't like spending money at the store on cabbage. We'll see how things go this year.
I think those tomatoes should do pretty good!

We grow a lot of different stuff. Corn, peppers, onions,God the potatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes. If you want some cucumbers and zucchini out the wah zoo plant them in a tilled fire pit of any sort. I live in southern Ohio and after cleaning up and burning some brush we rototiled the soil and we couldn't give enough of them away.

I wonder if mixing ash from a burn pile into regular old soil would work as well... or even help.stretch2011 wrote:We grow a lot of different stuff. Of course! Lots of goodies in bio chew and ash. Although some plants don't like it too much, most do. Its something to read on. Good old Cow poop and ash, nothing better.

Depends what you've been burning. Just wood, good!JazzGuitarGimp wrote:I wonder if mixing ash from a burn pile into regular old soil would work as well... or even help.
Pressure treated wood, not so much. Painted? With lead paint? To be avoided. Plus anything else hazardous.
down technical blind alleys . . .
Re: Doing some hydroponics
Haha that's what I thought too: "tomato" plants. Thought you were going to ask about the efficacy of hanging red Christmas balls on the prohibited sprouts to camouflage them from the neighbors, or satellites.Ron Worley wrote:I figured from the post title that you were growing some Dixie weed!
Re: Doing some hydroponics
Now, now, I don't do that stuff.
I would pass out just walking by Willie's bus.

It's ok. I started smoking tomatos.

Re: Doing some hydroponics
Years ago I did a HS ag project with hydroponic tomatoes, and it worked amazingly well. Your set up looks pretty fancy compared to what I did.
A few years after the tomatoes, Some college room mates and I put the same technology to work in an upstairs closet in our rental house, and it worked amazingly well again.
I always wanted to try it again. I like your setup.

The best tomato I've eaten were done with hydroponics near your old stomping grounds Gary, rural Thompson, ND.
A young couple decided to start supplying better tomatoes so they built green house and hydroponics system and started selling.

Tomatoes are super easy if you get the hybrid stuff but that don't taste ase good so I only grow the heirlooms.
