I think this is my favorite guitar solo.

It's definitely up there, anyway. The outro solo at the end of this Ryan Adams tune. From what I gather Greg Leisz played it, and it's just played so...damn...eloquently. Perfect touch. And it all starts with the tone. This is, I've decided, the ultimate "clean" tone to me, but it's right there on the edge. It sounds like single coils into a Fender amp of some sort to me, but that's about as far as I'm willing to go...

The solo starts at ~3:35 if that's all you're interested in.

Very nice...
For me it's the outro solo in Tony Williams Lifetime song Snake Oil. It's Allan Holdsworth but not as his most frenetic. Just a singing tone and great choice of notes.

Solo at the end....
In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

That Ryan Adams solo is just killer- the kind of thing I hear in my head. Saying volumes in just a few very tasty notes. I'll take that over any shreddy wanking every time.

That. On the other hand, only a couple of guitarists can get away with a solo of just one note (of a scale, played multiple times). Neil Young and Robert Fripp are the only two I can think of.

I'll add George Harrison (if it is indeed him) in Back in the USSR.

My favorite rock solo is at 2:35 in You're Gonna Need Me . Joe Walsh with the James Gang conducted a clinic on how to use a.wah with an echoplex. But above that it's a tie between Scott Henderson at the end of Tore Down House, and the solo at 2:11 in Lucky Henry of of Walter Becker's 11 Tracks Of Whack. All three are so.fluid and say so much in such a short time.
Sorry I have no links.

Sounds heavily inspired by the Curtis Mayfield, Jimi Hendrix school. The Wind Cried Mary comes to mind.

If I didn't know that was a Ryan Adams song I would have said it was a Jackson Browne song with David Lindley playing solo but not on lap steel. Tell me it's not in C.
