5E3 Tweed Deluxe build questions.

Hi

I am wanting to build a 5E3 Deluxe. I will use a fibreglass board instead of the compressed paper boards as I have only had bad experiences with them.

This means the board will have to be elevated above the chassis and I’m told that the board gets in the way of the input jacks. Firstly what is your experience and if this is so can you recommend a board that doesn’t cause this issue?

It's a challenge but doable. Use 1/2" or 3/8" standoffs for the board. I had to build in layers and rotate the input jacks just right.

Why not build it true point to point with these?

You will gain better tone by keeping your grid wires as short as possible.

They are available with anywhere from 2 to 6 terminal points.

Many Gibson amps where built with just one really long one paralleling the tube sockets.

FWIW, I modify the board layout to account for this, creating a notch in front of the jacks so one can get the board in easily, route the preamp leads to their respective pots, etc. The preamp components in that region have a little less room, but it's fine. It's not "vintage spec" but makes for a neater amp. There are two mounting holes on the traditional board. I add a third near the power supply caps for more support.

Don't know why I didn't mention this earlier... Just put a blank piece of fiber board under the component board. That should give you plenty of clearance.
