I pumped loud music through the cannabis Rex for a couple of days and it's loosened up nicely, handy having a soundproof studio :D

I have had an idea though. I looked at the dimensions of the front baffle and I can fit 2x10 speakers in there. I've ordered a pair of Celestion alnico gold 10's . ANyone ever tried 2x1o for a Princeton? what can i expect? I'm hoping for perhaps, punch, clarity and not loosing the bottom end. I tend to roll the bass back with the 12 so perhaps it will be OK with the 2x10's

Hi Marcus. Nice to see you used the Carbon Fiber tolex like you mentioned you would a while back !
It came out looking great. The grill cloth matches nicely too!

Golds have become my favorite speakers lately and I think having 2 of them will sound great! I never tried them with a Princeton but they sound great with my 50 watt JM amps.
The only thing I miss with the Golds is how the bottom end holds together nicely with G1265 and other similar ceramics , but you cant beat the sparkle from the Golds.
Cheers

thanks Guy,

I've actually measured up again today to make a new baffle and realised that I completely messed up with my assumption i could get 2x10 in there.....must have been thinking about something else.

Anyway, it means it's staying as it is.

It's sounding great.

Morning all.

Here's a little clip of the princeton reverb. It's using my Jazzmaster, with stayterm bridge, 12 gauge Thomastic Jazz flatwounds, straight into the princeton via a little Ditto looper.

phone mic but you get the idea.

Nice Marcus! - love the bassy sound.
I just built a Princeton Reverb too a month ago (head unit), and love it. I'm using it with a Texas Heat Speaker for now
.. I gotta get me one of those Ditto loopers.

Marcus,

That was smooth as a gravy sandwich. Great sounding amp! Is that with the Cannabis Rex? I think you said the amp was staying as is after the failed 2x10 baffleboard experiment...

Jeff, or is it Geoff?

gravy sandwich LOL what a great expression. :)

Yes cannabis Rex, it just works so well in this amp. The combo is slightly larger than stock so there's a lot more bottom end. I have to keep the bass control around 2 or 3.
The addition of the dwell pot on the rear means you can dial in the reverb perfectly, it really suits this guitar with flats and the oid school vibes.

Sounds great! Scanning back through this thread I didn’t see any discussion on the reverb dwell pot. What’s that about?

I'm calling it a dwell POT, I took out the 1M resistor and replaced it with a 1M pot. I think of as a send and return but it seems 'dwell' is the more common name for doing this.

edit: page 3 3rd from the bottom :)

Great fun, love that stuff! I've seen people do pretty amazing things with loopers.

Ok, so the 1M to ground at the reverb driver tube grid is now a 1M pot. Yes, level into the tank got called dwell on the Fender 6G15, and I guess it stuck.
