Finally got my 6G6B rig finished tonight. Here's my personal 6G6B head that I finished up 2 months ago and the cab that Taylor covered for me recently. It's a deep closed back cabinet with a Weber ceramic Michigan paper dome 12" speaker.

Re: 6G6B & phat closed back cabinet
The one I built for my customer I used the yellow Sozos and a MCI tweed Bassman OT. I slightly prefer that one with a hot humbucker and the modified bass channel. This one has the Speer KOA CF resistors, Mercury Magnetics tone clone OT and hands down the normal channel of this one is preferred. My customers amp does have a GZ34 rectifier as he was adament about it. Nevertheless, both have the correct schematic voltages using the modern higher AC line voltages.dcribbs1412 wrote:Thats a real beauty TM

Honestly, I don't have enough tangible evidence info to say the blue is better than the yellow in this circuit. I will say that both sound decent and I would not hesitate to use the yellow again, especially with the modified crunchy bass channel.
Thanks
Mike

Great looking amp and speaker cab.
Re: 6G6B & phat closed back cabinet
Very nice, TM. I'm in the process of building one right now. I followed your lead with the Speer KOA CF's and Blue Zoso on the normal channel. Looking forward to hearing how it turns out. Thanks for your posts.
Re: 6G6B & phat closed back cabinet
I'm running my '64 6G6B into a cabinet built to original dimensions, but with two (15") Eminence Legend 151's shoehorned in. As you can imagine, it has bass for days.
The cab was still missing its grillecoth when I took this picture.
It still had the original caps when I bought it in 2007. (I've replaced them, obviously.)

Are you playing guitar or bass or what through those two 15" speakers?
I've been seeking a solution for 15" speaker output.
Do you like the 2x15s in gutiar blues mode?
Fender originally had the 5B6 1x15 and I've been thinking
about a cabinet for my amp heads. 2x15 has me thinking.
How much does the speaker cabinet weigh?
What ohm values are the speakers for the Bassman
16-ohm speakers or 8-ohm speakers?
How is the "high-end" and distortion tones
if this Bassman is used for guitar?
Thanks for the info. Toppscore

I've only used it for guitar, but I imagine it would sound pretty good for bass as well. They're two 8 ohm speakers, so I put I two jacks on the back for 4 and 16 ohms.Toppscore wrote:mr_hankey wrote:I'm running my '64 6G6B into a cabinet built to original dimensions, but with two (15") Eminence Legend 151's shoehorned in. The sound is loud, clean and BIG. The high end response is as good as a smaller speaker. I wouldn't call it better or worse than a 2x12 cab, just different.
I originally wanted to put just one 15" in there (Vibroverb style), but ended up buying two because I couldn't find any 4 ohm speakers that weren't more expensive than both of those Eminences put together. I would have had to import a 4 ohm speaker from the US, with shipping and tax and what not.
I'm not sure on the weight, but it's probably 4-5kg heavier than with 12's.
Re: 6G6B & phat closed back cabinet
Cool. Helpful.
I will be designing or making a 15" speaker
or combination cabinet that includes a 15" speaker.
Personally, I do enjoy the guitar bass tones more
than guitar higher-end treble tones. Even the high
guitar notes with a clean tone on a 15" speaker
is appealing. Toppscore
