5F2A or 6G10 amp build
I have already built a 5F1 amp. For my next amp I was going to build a 6G10 amp or a 5F2A with a 10" speaker. Looking at the schematics I notice that the circuits are almost identical except for the pots. The 6G10 has a 1 meg audio pot for the tone and a 1 meg linear pot for the volume. The 5F2A has a 1 meg linear pot for both the tone and volume. The 5F1 that I built had a 1 meg audio pot for the volume. Should I use 1 meg audio for both tone and volume, 1 meg linear for both tone and volume, or a 1 meg linear for volume and 1 meg audio for tone? Could somebody explain the difference in the sound that would be produced with the different pots.

An audio pot is designed to replicate the way the ear hears, the linear is just what it says. Usually you will be happier with an audio pot as the linear will be too quick from soft to loud.

Thanks pops and stretch

Use an audio pot for the volume and a linear pot for the tone. I just finished a build based on this preamp circuit and I can say that a linear pot for the tone control is the way to go. With a linear, the mid point of the pot is really close to being the mid point between bass and treble, which is what you want.
What?

I'm building a Maggie 113 right now, I think I'll try the 1M linear in the tone pot. Thanx for the tip Jana!
