Princeton reverb clone lost output

Post by Mainetone »

Good morning,
Purchased a non working Weber Princeton Reverb Kit, build was decent.
I found all the plate resistors were 1 meg vs 100k. Easy Fix!
Gigged with it maybe 10 times, it's great

Last time playing I lost output. I found the bias supply diode had failed. Changed it out.
Set the bias at 34mv and no change.
I have beautiful signal going in to the output tubes with very small, clipped output coming from the o.t.
I changed the output jack, voltages are good. Swapped tubes
Feel like Im missing something simple.
Thanks for any input

Loss of bias voltage would cause excessive plate current and subsequent damage to the OT. Measure resistance plate-to-plate and plate to CT. You should see ~150 ohms on each half.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the reply.
I measure 170ohms per side.
I thought maybe I was leaking ac on the grids of the output tubes, that said there is no ac present.
Any chance a section in the can cap could cause this?
Thanks again

So you get 340 ohms plate to plate, and 170 plate to center tap on both sides? If so that sounds good.

What are the DC voltages on the PI tube? Compare those to the schematic. Are all tube heaters glowing?

Measure the VDC on pins 3, 4, 5, and 8 of both 6V6s. Verify the output jack is wired correctly.

What part number diode was it that failed with only bias voltage on it?
