Class 5 - Tone stack bypass and/or FX Loop
I use a Dr. Boogey pedal (mesa-ish FET preamp) and it sounds great into the loop return of most amps, driving the power section and I'd like to use it with my Class5 better. Is there a way to bypass the C5's tone stack? Or would it be easier to add an FX Loop return? If so, how would I go about doing either?

Both are possible - adding a passive effects loop is more simple.Iron Broadsword wrote:I use a Dr. Boogey pedal (mesa-ish FET preamp) and it sounds great into the loop return of most amps, driving the power section and I'd like to use it with my Class5 better. Is a passive fx loop as easy as patching in a couple neutrik jacks before the power section and grounding it somewhere? Argh, can't find a schematic right now. I'll see if I can dig one up later so I can figure out where to add it.

Try doing a Google search on "add an effects loop to your amp".

Add cliff jacks between VR2 Treble pot wiper and C21 100nf/100v infront of V2a pin 2.

Found a schematic finally - http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=33575
Just located the spot you mentioned between the Treble wiper and C21.
I'm new to NMV amps, and didn't expect to be installing the loop before the gain stages. I'd expected it to be right before v2. Is this so that a buffered bypass can be avoided? I'd just like to know the theory. Also the reason I mentioned Neutrik was so I could make the jack re-connect the C5's preamp when you've nothing plugged in.
Fwiw, I know my way around a soldering gun and am already comfy performing outlined mods in amps, and building stompboxes. Working theory in as I go

Hmm, might just be wiser to nix the tone stack in the Dr. Boogey, or at least to try that first. I don't use the DB any other way anyways, just want that gain.
