I think the problem with Sozo is production and providing caps to the large amp building companies and for us bottom feeders we have to wait.

I use M150, Xicon, and Mojo Dijon caps. For Dumble and Fender I'm using 6Ps OD.

I'm going to be using more Xicon film caps as I've had very good results in Marshall Hot Rod Plexi AFD #39. All caps in that amp are Xicon film caps.

I must be the only bottom feeder here that typically manages to get Sozo orders in 2 weeks or less. My first order for Nex Gens I placed on 2/27 and 3/6 they were in my mailbox. I just placed another Nex Gen Plexi set order last night, I will post when they show up.

I don't use Sozo anymore so I have no experience with ordering only read the complaints so someone else will have to chime in and I'll stay quiet. :)

capacitor value

Post by dariez75 »

Hy Guys, I don't want open a new thread because I wanna talk about sozo-mustar capacitor: I've bought on ebay 4 27nF mustard capacitor to use in 1987 build. Can I use as same of 22nF? are there some important tonal change?

Using 27nF instead of 22nF for will shift the frequency break points down a little less than 1/3 octave, so in general you will get a bit more bass-heavy sound.

Yes. The PI coupling caps and the 220k resistors connected to the bias supply make a high-pass filter. The output impedance of the PI is involved too, but the effect will be to move the low frequency break point lower. I don't think it will be a big deal though, so go ahead and try it.

Ok martin, you convince me, i try to build whith 22nF 400v orange drop in phase inverter, and after all I'll try to swap with mustard 27nF. In the time I waiting I could put an order of sozo 22nf...

Sounds good. No offense but I've heard JTM45s that I liked better.
If it don't get hot and glow, I don't want it !

If you want to listen to many different early Marshalls look at this guy's channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyaStg ... 1PgH8bUkzg

He'll show you the circuit as well so you can see what spec the amp is.
