And..... it was the OT.
I made a swap and the amp sounds great.
It's a bummer 'cause the OT I had in it was a Dynaco Z565. I got a pair years ago and the first one was just fine.
What could be wrong with it? I thought OT's were either dead or alive, I guess not.

I've seen only two OTs like that in 500 repairs. It happens.

I always imagined that the defective OT was arcing internally. It got worse and worse and then died.
