Progress.
Man ! This thing looks sharp in Mikey's cab.
Power supply 64uF - 7H Choke - 32uF - 20k - 20uF - 10k - 20uF - 10k - 20uF
B+ at about 410. Feels loose in a good way. Not overly bright.
Used mainly stock 2204 circuit with Martin M, Miles & Jana's mods.
Martinizer presonance.
External bias.
3 way switch for 3rd stage input level.
Switch for 100k or 50k + 1000pF CF.
Switch for big 150uF catthode bypass.
Biased hot.
Gonna play her for a month b4 I change anything.
Still needs foot switch/relays fitted.
Very versatile - can get great singing cleans - almost acoustic.
When you kick the gain in ... she's a beast.
Dirty Girl.
Many thanks to all who helped make this happen.
Next up - a straight up Plexi build with Mikey - ampmike.

Awesome!

You have a plastic protector of some kind on the big hole for the PT wires. What is that and where can I get?

The plastic edging is called edge trim. (grommet strip in English)
Pretty sure I got it from McMaster-Carr.
McMaster # is 85085K4 $6.13 for 25x1ft lengths.
Comes in handy - that's the second PT I've fitted to this chassis.
Naturally they required different cut outs.
Hence the grommet strip.

With that tight and clean layout I'll bet it sounds just like that but not so clean really. :)

Did Mercury ship the OT with the brackets sandwiched between the core and end bells? I'm used to seeing the brackets on the outside...

Yeah I looked at the brackets on the OT too.
I got it through someone else, so I'm not sure that it is "as built"
Sounds great though.
Of course everything matters in an amp - I just think that the OT is one of the biggest factors.

Tube holes

Post by ampmike »

Hey Guys,Starting my marshall that Bob sent me.Thanks again Bob!!!I need to add a octal or can cap hole.Is there any minimum distance for power tubes?Could the glass be 3/4 of an inch apart? On the other hand I could put the can cap tight up against each other as a choice too.Just want to check before I pop the hole in,Thanks Guys

Just wanted to say I built the wrecks but really dont play them much.My metro plexie I play almost every day.I think the marshall circuits for blues and rock just do it so perfectly.I put a lar/mar and it sounds great at any setting. You cant go wrong building one.Im starting the 2nd one now with Bob.Ill try to do pics as I go and sound clips when it up and running,Thanks Mikey

Looks real nice Bob!

Clean to mean a good thing!:D

One of these days I'll build a Marshall.

Have you used the JJ caps before?

Been curious about those.
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!
