Marshall 1959 Plexi PCB to HW-Pics included, what is this?

Post by cap217 »

I am looking for a marshall plexi head and found this one. It is a PCB amp that someone put a HW board and Sozo caps in. This amp is out of state so I need to know what I am getting into without seeing it in person. It is odd that the person attached the pcb to the inside back of the amp. I guess you cant lose it now...

Any advice/help about this would be nice...

Does it look like a kit was used? What do you think the price is to have this done to an amp. Help or hurt value?

Based on the poor lead dress of that amp, I have to wonder how it sounds...which may explain why it's for sale.

Usually what the seller has done is an upgrade...when it's done right.

Personally I wouldn't buy that amp unheard and in person.

Well, there are some interesting lead dress choices (input grid stops in the middle of the runs?!?) but I think it looks like a nice job, overall. Definitely makes it a lot easier to work on than the original PCB, and the components look good. Get a promise from the seller to take it back if you're unhappy, then keep your fingers crossed!

If the price is right you could dress it up a little and have fun playing through it.

Kit all the way. Someone fucked up the spec. Kindoff cross between late 68/69' Superlead (22nF in PI), split cathode for V1, 680nF bypass cap on V2, and earlier spec tonestack (56k treble resistor, where it should be 33k with the ret of the spec)
