Dumble 2x12 cab
EDIT: Uploaded a corrected version. The copy at the top of the image incorrectly identified the depth of the cabinet as 12 1/2" which conflicted with the correctly scaled drawing which indicates 12 1/4".
I posted this in response to a topic over in the Tech. Disc. section but I thought it might be a good idea to put it here too.
Hope it helps!

Re: Dumble 2x12 cab
Please note that the att. in my 1st post has been corrected so that the info at the top of the image corresponds w/ the scaled drawing (depth of 12 1/4" as opposed to 12 1/2".
Sorry for any confusion
Also I figured I'd add a some of links to a couple of the threads I collected data from. If you're looking for more, use the search function with terms like "oval port", "2x12", etc. but be prepared to do some reading. Here ya go:

Re: Dumble 2x12 cab
You're mighty welcome, Chris. That thing looks really good.
Here's the one I built. It's made out of lumber core - the elusive material that the originals were allegedly constructed from. The cabinet is half oak core with cedar veneer and half poplar core with mahogany veneer. If anyone's looking for a source, look no further than the curb... The wood came from a old cabinet I picked up off the side of the road. And the baffles are covered with the fabric off an old couch. Mine will never see service outside the basement, so it's gonna stay in this semi-finished sort of state. Sorry for the crappy cell phone picture:

So you built it and tolexed it?
dano-rator,
Yours also looks cool.
Kind of natrual look.

Thanks Tom and Brandon (if your comment was directed at me )
Ya I built and tolexed it. Took a long time to figure out how to do good finger joints. In the end they turned out real good and tight. The cab is incredibly solid.

Projects like these (one's I know will never leave my place) seem to end up with a sort of utilitarian beauty or a rustic charm if you will. You know, wire-brushed, oiled and let 'er rip!

Re: Dumble 2x12 cab
I admire cats who do their own cab work, until you have done it you have no idea how difficult it is!

Yeah it ain't easy. I'd rather build a PTP Dumble than do woodwork. You do need cabs though so here we are.Funkalicousgroove wrote:I admire cats who do their own cab work, until you have done it you have no idea how difficult it is!
Head cabs are another story. Don't think I can make one of those. Need to find a place to buy those.
Hardest part I found when building the cab was calibrating the table saw to do finger joints. Took a lot of experimentation to get them right.
Re: Dumble 2x12 cab
Chris what grill cloth are you going for?
Will this be a front or rear load baffle?
Did you proportion the rear oval just like the plans show?
Is that the rough blond tolex?
Sorry for all the questions but man, I would like to build one of these cabs.
If you feel like it, I would also like to know about how much one of these costs to build?

Re: Dumble 2x12 cab
Chris, you're right about the finger joints - trial and error until you get the set up just tight enough and off you go... If I setup for that sort of thing I try to get a couple cabs or heads while I'm there all prepped. On a cab this size they're just about a necessity because of their strength, but i took a different approach. For this cab I used what they call a lock rabbet bit in the router - it's sort of a tapered rabbet that holds real well. Then I screwed the joints after I glued 'em and plugged the bung with a piece of dowel. It worked out to be quite strong and really easy to do.
Again, I'm thrilled that somebody got some use out of that drawing, and I hope more people take the plunge cause these things really have a good sound.
Also, alot of thanks go to Brandon, cause most of the info I found about this design came from his posts. THANKS FOR SHARING. It is very much appreciated.

Going to go for a brown grill cloth. Would like the cab to look the the bottom head here http://personalpages.manchester.ac.uk/s ... ys_rig.jpgStructo wrote:Chris what grill cloth are you going for?

Rear loaded baffle, using T nuts. I don't like the look of front loaded.
Yep the cutout is just like the plans.
And the tolex is Fender rough blonde!
