D'Lite 6V6

Post by Marvel »

Hi all,

It's my first post to the forum, although I've been reading for some time now. My name's Marcin amd I'm from Poland.

I've just powered up my D'Lite for the first time. It was too late to plug the guitar in, but the amp is definitely working. :D

Thanks a lot to the guys who shared the D'Lite schematic and layout which I based my project on.

Below are the pics and I'll get back to you as soon as I try it with the guitar.

Nice clean build, congratulations.

Is that a tube rectifier? You don't often see that on a Dumble, it'll be interesting to see what it sounds like.

Two rock use tube rectifiers in their 10th anniversary, and classic type 3.

My first and only build was a D'Lite 6V6 ... it is a wonderful amp ... congrats. Cool feeling when it makes sound the first time. Where did you set your OD trimmer (on the board)? I miss that step when building mine ... the amp got better once I figured that out.

Nice build. :D
Always cool to see a build from a different country.

Now the fun begins, tuning the amp to you and your guitar(s). :D

Thanks. :D

Yes, there'a a tube rctifier because I got hold of a set of transformers (including choke, too) as someone was upgrading Deluxe Reverb Reissue, so I decided not to waste the tube rectifier heaters tap. In fact I also used Fender's bias supply and poweramp values. And of course had to change poweramp filtering a little.

The trimpots I used a PIHER. I buy them locally here in Poland.

Now coming back to the amp itself: it really sound amazing. :D What bothers me a little is a noise which appears when I switch tha PAB or OD on. When I switch them both on, the noise doubles. I think it's coming from relay coils. I power my 12V relays from 6,3 V tap with voltage multiplier but I used 100uF caps in the multiplier and the actual voltage on the coils is to low. I think this might be the cause of hum.

I also have a question about PAB itself: what does it actually do? Does it bypass the EQ or only Mid and Bass, or what? I'm not sure about bass pot wiring either. On the D'Lite schematics the center add right lugs are connected but on the layout they aren't. I connected them.

Regards, Marcin

I'll be interested in what it does to the amps charactor, especally when cranked. I also built a 2x6V6 amp using Fender iron but I choose to use the 5V tap for relays.

Ahh.. you're from Poland. I feel a connection to Polish folks because my adopted daughter is Polish, both of her birth parents were born in Poland. We plan to visit when she's old enough to remember the experience. 8)

To be sure it's the relay supply, you can disconnect and run the relays from a battery. It may be also hum generated in the OD circuit so you'll first need to eleminate the relay supply as the source.

The PAB bypasses then entire eq section, adding some gain in the process.

Check the ODS101 schematic posted on the Dumble Files page for the correct wiring of the bass pot. All 3 terminals are used but no 2 are connected together. Pins 1 and 2 goe to the PAB relay, pin 3 to a 10K resistor which goes to ground.

Do you not have a presence control?

Another thing that is crucial with these amps is the preamp plate voltages.

You want 190-200v on V1, 200-205v on V2 and 290-295v on V3

Try as many different preamp tubes as you have, they can change the voltage as well as the tone.

As for the noise in PAB and OD, check your lead dress and solder joints around those relays and cathodes.

I'll reply to your posts later. Now I'd like you to listen to the amp. :D I know it's not taking the most out of it, but still it sounds nice. 8)
