Hi folks,

great idea, but IMHO such a kind of "reference guide" would need some kind of "structure", that links each clip or video with the technical specs of the amp, as far as these are known.

What I mean is something like this:

Video A is done with a Skyliner ODS with a HRM circuit and the schematic for such a kind of amp can be found here (link) in the "Dumble Files" section.

Video B is done with a 100W SSS with a "three tube reverb" and seperate inverter and driver tubes and xyz OT. The schematic for such a kind of reverb can be found here: link. The OT was made by xy and a replica can be bought here: link.

Video C is done with a 3rd generation ODSR that has been updated by A. Dumble with a skyliner tone stack. This amp has been discussed in this thread: link.

Video D is done with a 4th generation amp, more is not known to me.

Video E is done with a blackface ODS. Nothing more is known to me.

Of course it is fun to listen to great music. But after all this is a site to help one another with building amps in the "Dumble tradition".

That is why I think, it would perhaps be most important, to give such a thread some kind of structure (I admit, I am a fan of wiki structures for open projects) that is able to link tone references with technical data as far as these are or can be made known.

If the one who posts a "tone reference video" does not know anything about the amp used in the video or clip, other members could add what they know about this special amp, even after half a year (or more).


I've got a PM to remind me of Stephen Bruton. Of course I did not forget him. But as far as I know he plays skyliners and that's why his Dumble did not fit into my "pre-classic vs. classic compliation" in this thread

If you are willing to pay in advance (PayPal) for

- the daily rent for the studio (location, sound engineer etc.)
- the transport of amps and cabinets etc. to and from the studio
- an "all risk" insurance (here you can ask for the insurance fee, let’s say, to be on the safer side, for 80.000 USD per amp: http://www.lloyds.com/
- the lawyer, that has to check in advance that the insurance policy is really of an "all risk" kind and without any hidden traps.
- the daily rent for the amps the owners would probably ask for such a kind of "non artistic purpose" (what would be an appropriate daily rent you could ask here: http://www.ultrasoundampsales.com/)
- a good and versatile studio player who could demonstrate different styles with a meaningful result

and if you would be willing to pay for any kind of damage or loss that in the end should not be covered by the insurance ("act of god" etc.) and by the liability insurance of the lawyer, whose advise may perhaps turn out to be wrong in the end, and to pay for all this in advance a proper security deposit (to be on the safer side, say 80.000 USD per amp),

if so, then I would of course consider to do as you ask.

After your PayPal payment would have arrived, I would organize everything (no fun, but OK, my personal contribution).

When ready, you would get a DVD with all the results.

After it should have turned out in the end, that nothing has happened, that is not covered by the insurances, you would get back the security deposit.

The amount to rent a dumble can be both scary and astronomical, you rarely see any single session guys renting dumble amps for personal use. In some cases a few big cheese studio's own 1, usually just an ODS.

Specs read
100w 6L6 amp
low Plate w/4.7 @50v cathode bypass caps..Mepco 100k plates
.05 mid cap, a 100K slope
Pre od trimmer resistor's colors read 120k
V1B coupling cap is smaller than 05uf.Looks like 02uf to me.
different fb resistors too,
2k7(wth trim pot in series)-270 ohm to ground

Kimock has such cool amps, that bandmaster and dearmond, the big suprise for me was Chris Thiles playing mando through the dumble amp, I'm pretty sure that's Steve's 100 watt that he's playing through. It sounds great...Looks like he's plugged into normal input (not FET)?

Steve usually uses the 50 watt ODS he got from Terry Haggerty (Sons of Champlin), I'm not sure where the 100 watter came from.

Both amps are present in the studio actually.

The ( 50w ) is battered and bruised.
